‘Flames Not Flowers’ are an independent group of working-class women set up to participate in the commemorations of 1916. We represented the women prisoners who were held in Richmond Barracks. We were asked to take part in the International Women’s Day event, attended by the President Michael D Higgins and Sabina in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. We also were asked to do our marching and drama at the opening of Richmond Barracks in May 2016.
This a very powerful piece of work and a powerful group of working-class local women who use this platform to address & protest about the issues that impact them.
